Jogo Aberto 7-14/03/2010

Jogo Aberto, our school’s next event, will be held from the 7th to the 14th of March at Fingal Head, NSW, Australia. The programme is packed with talks, discussions, documentary screening, and of course heaps of good classes and Rodas. Everyone is welcome! From new beginers to advanced students and teachers.

Costs were kept as low as possible so that everyone interested could enjoy this experience and contribute with input about the matters approached at 4CapoeiraThoughts blog.

More details on bookings, guests and schedule can be found here.

Our FaceBook page and who else more is coming here.

The expression ‘jogo aberto’ could be translated as fair play, or honest game. I chose this name to communicate the character of our intentions and aims in developing Capoeira as a socio-cultural and educational tool towards social inclusion and intercultural learning.

Such project cannot be accomplished without an honest discussion and assessment of both the shortcomings and potentialities of the art. In order to be to argue that Capoeira is an efficient tool, we must master as much as we can its fundamentals, but we must do so in relation to the art’s community and society in general. Otherwise the process of acquiring such knowledge is mere training, but not education. Training is pure repetition of contents without a context whilst education leads to reflection of the context, consciousness, and action.

It is also unlikely that someone will thrive in these matters within our community without inter-group and inter-style cooperation, without an honest dialogue approaching our difficulties, obstacles and potencialities.

For all these reasons I would like to invite you, who have been reading the 4CapoeiraThoughts and taking action through discussions, comments, suggestions and e-mails to attend Jogo Aberto, and contribute with all of us interested in an honest and libertarian development of the art.

Axé!

Eurico
