even more than i ever wanted to, Friere inspires a person to want to liberate himself beyond the constraints of conventional experience and existence first by compassionately battling with the self. not an easy path but he's such an inspiration

Oi,
A more horizontal approach does not disregard the teacher's authority. However, it's based on mutual respect instead of top-down hierarchical approach only. Another important feature of a horizontal approach, which is a constant in Freire's method, is that the content is built accordingly to the student's cultural and social context (eg addressing specific oppressive structures in their context).
One cannot really establish education as a libertarian tool adopting a hierarchical approach. Now, if one don't aim to apply a libertarian approach of education, I suppose that being trained to repeat content elaborated by others is not a problem. ;)

Hi

Could you explain more how you see the horizontal approach in education would work in contrast to vertical?
I think it would only make students' life easier as opposed to working hard in order to become someone and educator's life harder by diminishing respect towards him.

Thanks
