About Me

Eurico ViannaMy Capoeira journey begun in 1990 and for the last 10 years I have been working as an engaged teacher holding regular classes, workshops, lectures and promoting events in several countries. In 2002 I started the not for profit organisation Volta Por Cima – Capoeira, Educação e Cultura; as well as the social project Learning from Brazilian Culture assisting youth in ‘at risk’ situation living in shelters.

In many ways all my endeavours in Capoeira owes a great deal of inspiration to my teacher’s (Mestre Suassuna) life and work. This social and educational approach to Capoeira led me to enlarge my network starting schools in Sweden, Finland, New Zealand and Australia in partnership with great people. Currently, I’m based in Australia developing a PhD research – Capoeira and Social Inclusion – in sociology of culture at Griffith University.
